pyke and co
so i went to the big day out last sunday.
i don't really like music festivals. i don't like being around people all that much to start with, let alone massive crowds.. and the douchebags come in droves for festivals. but hey, the lineup was good this year, and it turned out to be pretty awesome. some of the highlights for me..
josh pyke
i've been wanting to see josh pyke for a while. he's become one of my favourite singer/songwriters over the past year, with his profoundly likeable and somewhat quirky style. i just love the way his lyrics have this really poetic, anecdotal rhythm that just roll off his tongue. he played a great set, but i'
sweet and sour bjork
worst news ever.
björk had to cancel her performance at the sydney big day out today, due to swollen vocal chords. i'd be so despondent right now if i was from sydney.. what a let down.
"björk and the producers of big day out hope for a swift recovery in anticipation of a continued australian tour. after a standout show at the gold coast big day out this is a great disappointment to björk, who is on her first tour of australia in twelve years."
that's somewhat encouraging, but i'm not holding my breath.
i really hope she gets better soon. perth is waiting! :crying:

i'd been waiting a fair while for this, and like a lot of other people was quite excited about it. hype usually leads to disappointment, so i usually don't get too caught up in it and keep my expectations open. it seems that the movie has divided people into love/hate camps, which i guess is inevitable with anything that a) has hype, and b) doesn't conform. i for one thought it was absolutely brilliantly done. the hand-held camera style was completely immersive, and put you right in the action. you went through everything that the characters did, and you knew everything that they did about what was happening.. which wasn't much.
wild and woolly
what the fuck is with tom cruise? seriously.
you have to have a look at this video of him talking about his grandiose ideology of what it means to be a scientologist. he makes them sound like superheroes. this is an actual quote:
"when you're a scientologist, and you drive by an accident, you know you have to do something about it, because you know you're the only one who can really help... we are the way to happiness. we can bring peace and unite cultures."
no, really. he said that.
it's amazing how he goes on for ten minutes, and never really says anything about anything.
"you're on board, or you're not on board.
okay? but just.. if y

What in the hell is that thing? A "magic pipe" huh? Looks more like a "magic amputated bionic arm" to me...
